The short version
From the geographic center of
65
current DXCC entities fall within 3,500 statute miles of Tennessee.
From the geographic center of
159
current DXCC entities fall within 3,500 statute miles of Israel.
That difference does not say that one station is better, that every entity is equally workable, or that a contact is guaranteed. It only shows how much the starting geometry changes before propagation, antennas, power, operating time, and skill even enter the picture.

How these counts were made
Each current ARRL DXCC entity was represented by one entity-specific geographic reference point. The distance from that point to the geographic center of Tennessee or Israel was calculated as a great-circle distance. An entity is included when its reference point is at or under 3,500 statute miles.
- This is a comparison of current DXCC entities, not sovereign countries.
- Remote territories and islands use their own entity reference point rather than the location of the administering country.
- The calculation is a practical reference-point comparison, not a territorial-polygon claim. An entity near the boundary could change classification with a different defensible reference point.
- It is an opportunity map, not a propagation prediction.

Sources and snapshot
Entity roster: ARRL DXCC List, current entities snapshot dated January 2026 (340 entities). Entity reference coordinates: URVAG DXCC coordinate listing, consulted September 2026. Counts were calculated from those two sources using a 3,500-statute-mile great-circle threshold. Natural Earth geographic outlines (public domain, 1:110m) were used for the visual-only map overlays.
